What "hand-spun" means at Ryan's
A hand-spun shake starts the same way a cone does: with scoops of homemade ice cream straight from the case. We blend it to order, thick and creamy, then top it with whipped cream so it is cold, smooth, and ready to go. There is no pre-mixed shake base and no shortcut, just the same small-batch ice cream we have been making in-house since 1988, turned into something you drink through a straw (eventually).
That is the whole difference between a milkshake made from real ice cream and the kind poured out of a machine. When the ice cream is good on its own, the shake takes care of itself.
Any homemade flavor becomes a shake
The best milkshake starts with ice cream you already love, and at Ryan's you get to pick from the entire board. Choose something classic, something fruity, something rich, or whatever seasonal flavor is scooping that week. A few ideas to get you started:
Vanilla shake
The classic diner shake, and the base for a float.
Chocolate shake
Thick, rich, and the most-requested kind for a reason.

Not every craving is a milkshake craving. Alongside hand-spun shakes we make old-fashioned floats, like a root beer float built on a scoop of homemade vanilla (pictured above). Ask at the counter for what is available that day.
Pair it with the rest of your visit
A milkshake can be the main event or one part of a bigger Ryan's stop. Families often order cones and sundaes, Italian ice, dairy-free Dole soft serve, novelty treats, or a take-home quart while one person sips a shake. Because everything is made in house, it is easy to build an order that keeps the whole group happy.
Milkshakes near Red Bank, Long Branch, and the Shore
Our Tinton Falls shop at 462 Shrewsbury Ave is under 10 minutes from Red Bank, about 5 from Shrewsbury, and about 10 from Eatontown. Our Oakhurst shop at 1805 NJ-35 sits right in Ocean Township on Route 35, about 10 minutes from the Asbury Park boardwalk and about 15 from Long Branch. Both are open daily until 10:00 PM, so a late shake after dinner, a game, or a beach day is always on the table.
